A few facts about pewter: Pewter is the fourth most precious metal in common use. Pewter is a metal alloy consisting of mostly tin, and a small percentage of copper and antimony. Unlike silver, pewter does not require polishing.  It will darken with age and if an antiqued look is not preferred, it can be cleaned with a mild buffing compound.
